  Acts is finished. The next chapter is ours to write. Five weeks on becoming the church, beginning Sunday, July 12.

  Church family,

  Yesterday we turned the last page of Acts. We opened chapter 1 on Ascension Sunday last year, and we have watched one sentence prove itself ever since: the disciples of Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, come together as the church to continue Jesus’ mission by telling others about God’s kingdom so the world can see God’s glory. Prison could not stop that mission. A shipwreck could not stop it. The last word of the whole book is “unhindered.”

  And Luke ends the story without an ending on purpose. Acts is meant to move into a twenty-ninth chapter, and it is ours to write.

  That is what our new series is about. This Sunday we begin What It Takes, five weeks on how we become the church Acts shows us, right here in Wisner. Five questions, one per week: What is the church? How do we build? What will it take? Where do I fit? Where are we going?

  There is a reason the artwork below looks like a locker room full of Wisner jerseys. Church was never meant to be watched from the stands. There is a jersey with your name on it, and this series is about putting it on.

  Come start it with us Sunday. Worship at 9:45, and bring the whole family back at 5:00 that evening for our Family Gathering. We will see you there.
