Church family,
I've been turning these last few Sundays over, and I don't want them leaving you heavy. The Teacher in Ecclesiastes has made us confront some uncomfortable truths, and those can pile up. He said them to free us.
We've heard him say, in Ecclesiastes 1, that everything under the sun is vapor, a breath you can see and never hold, and that the people after us will forget us the same way we forgot the ones before. He ran wisdom and pleasure and work as far as a king could run them, and every one came back vapor. Then he said there is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep and a time to laugh, and we do not set any of those times. God put eternity in the heart and hid the whole of what he is doing. He named what is true so we could put down a load he never asked us to carry. The sun came up this morning without us, and it will come up tomorrow the same way. We can put the world down. Running the world is his, and being known by him is ours.
He saw, in Ecclesiastes 2:24, that the bread, the work, and the years come out of the hand of God, none of it earned, so we receive them. He saw that we do not set the times, so we celebrate today. Last Sunday he saw that this is an evil world, so we take the good God still gives.
This week the Teacher turns to the house of God, Ecclesiastes 5:1 through 7. Guard your steps when you walk in. Come ready to listen more than you speak, and mean what you promise.
Sunday evening at 5:00 we come back to the Family Life Center. We sit down around tables and eat together. We take communion. We hear how our work together is going, and we have a business meeting. The Apprentice Gathering takes the week off so nobody has to choose. Come to the tables.

Church Family
James Blount asked us to thank you for how this church cared for their family after his mother, Yvonne Blount, died. He leaves soon to work as a merchant marine for the next few months. Pray for him as he works and as he mourns his mom.
