Paid Childcare Worker

We are looking for someone who sees the care of children as ministry. You would look after the children assigned to you in a safe, secure, Christian setting, and welcome each one with a smile and a kind word.

Everyone who works with our children, paid or volunteer, completes the same screening and signs the same child protection policy. This application is the first step. Set aside about half an hour.

What you would do

The Paid Childcare Worker is responsible to the church for providing a safe, secure, Christian environment for the children assigned to their care. No one reports to you, and you report to the Ministries Assistant.

What the church expects of you

  • Be an active, faithful member of FBC Wisner.
  • Support the church through biblical stewardship.
  • Help lay a firm foundation of faith in the lives of the children. Be loving and kind. Welcome each child with a smile and a kind word.

Your responsibilities

  1. Arrive fifteen minutes before your shift to prepare the room and greet families who come early.
  2. Have the materials, books, and videos ready when the children arrive.
  3. Report broken furniture or equipment to the Church Secretary.
  4. Straighten the room at the end of each period.
  5. Practice good health and hygiene. Wash your hands after each diaper change and nose wipe, and before you prepare snacks.
  6. Send each child's belongings home with the child, and mark them as needed.
  7. Check babies and toddlers often for diaper changes (every baby gets at least one) and remind young children to use the bathroom.
  8. Serve snacks and drinks.
  9. Clean up after snacks, including washing cups and utensils.
  10. Take on other reasonable duties the Ministries Assistant assigns.

Qualifications

  • A Christian who considers this a ministry to show God's love to children.
  • You have attended FBC Wisner for at least six months. If you have not attended, your references must document your prior work with children.
  • Able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • Able to complete an approved child safety training course.
  • Able to talk with children and parents, and to read and write English.
  • Able to work closely with diverse groups of people within the church.
  • The work includes lifting and moving children, holding them, sitting on the floor, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and using your hands and arms. You may do this with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Three professional references from outside your family.
  • Trained and current in CPR. Preferred. The church may provide CPR training.

From application to your first shift

  1. Apply

You complete this application. The church keeps it in confidence in the church office.

  2. Interview

A pastor or ministry team leader may meet with you face to face to talk about the position.

  3. Reference checks

We contact your references before you work with children.

  4. Background check

The church runs a national criminal background check with your signed permission.

  5. Training and policy

You complete MinistrySafe sexual abuse awareness training, read and sign the child protection policy before you serve, and sign it again each year.

Paid Childcare Worker application

Eight short steps. You can move back to earlier steps and your answers stay in place. Every question is required unless it says optional.

This application leaves out your Social Security number on purpose. The church collects it separately when the background check begins.

Have these ready

  • Name, phone number, and email for three professional references, none of them family
  • Dates and supervisor phone numbers for your last one or two jobs
  • Your CPR card, if you have one

    Before you begin

Three quick questions tell us whether this position fits you today.

    Are you 18 or older?

This position is for adults. If you are 14 to 17 and would like to help in a room alongside a supervising adult, call the church office at (318) 724-6148.

    Which describes you?

You can apply. Because you have not attended, at least two references must have seen you work with children, and one of those must be an employer, a teacher, or a children's program leader. We ask them about that work. That is the record of your prior care.

This job means talking with parents and children and writing short notes and forms in English. Can you do both?

Thank you for telling us. Call the church office at (318) 724-6148 and we will talk it through. You may keep going with the application in the meantime.

    About you

Use your legal name. The church needs it to run the background check.

    Where you live

Please give the address where you lived before this one.

    Emergency contact

    Faith and church

This job is ministry. Tell us about your walk with Jesus and your place in the church.

Are you a member of FBC Wisner?
Are you familiar with our church's doctrine and core beliefs?
Have you attended another church in the last five years?

We may contact the staff of your prior church. You give permission in the last step. If you attended more than one, tell us about the most recent.

    Experience with children

Paid or volunteer, tell us what you have done. A little experience counts.

Which ages have you cared for? Check all that apply.
    CPR and first aid

    Work history

List your last one or two jobs, starting with the most recent. If you have not held a paid job, write none yet in the employer box and describe your volunteer service in the box above.

    Availability and duties

This position records up to 5 paid hours a week. Tell us when you can serve.

Which times can you work? Check all that apply.
Does a schedule of up to 5 hours a week, recorded on a timecard, work for you?
Can you lift and move children and do the rest of this physical work, with or without a reasonable accommodation? That includes lifting and moving children, holding them, sitting on the floor, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, changing diapers, serving snacks, and cleaning up. A reasonable accommodation is a change that lets you do the work.
    Safety questions

Every worker answers these questions, and every applicant hears the same ones. A conviction left off this form ends the application, so answer fully. Questions? Call the church office at (318) 724-6148 before you submit.

Have you ever been charged with or convicted of a felony?
Have you ever been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or no contest to, any offense involving children, violence, dishonesty, illegal substances, or indecency, felony or misdemeanor?
Have you ever been accused of any type of sexual misconduct?
Has any person, agency, school, church, or employer ever reported you, investigated you, or found you responsible for abusing or neglecting a child?
Are you required to register as a sex offender in any state?
Has a church, school, youth program, or employer ever removed you from a job or volunteer role, or asked you to step down?
Have you ever received counseling or discipline because of an inappropriate action toward another member or a child?
Do you engage in any activity that is contrary to our beliefs as a church? Examples include: gambling, abuse of alcohol, use of illegal drugs, homosexual relationship, or extra-marital affairs.
Is there anything else in your history, or any reason known to you, that we should consider before you work with children?
    References

Give three professional references: people who have worked with you or supervised you. That includes a current or former employer or supervisor, a pastor or ministry leader, a teacher or school administrator, or the leader of a children's or youth program. Every reference is someone outside your family and outside your household. When you can, include someone who has seen you with children.

You have not attended FBC Wisner. At least two of these three must have seen you work with children, and one of those two must be an employer, a teacher, or a children's program leader.
